Tuesday 8 April saw our annual Spring Concert involving all of our big school ensembles.
The String Ensemble performed a stylish Hornpipe, Guitar Ensemble played Hey There Delilah, and Orchestra blasted a ‘raucous’ (as directed by the composer!) Simpsons theme tune.
Our Big Band, recently taken on by Mr. Muirhead, our new jazz and instrumental teacher, led with some stylistic solos based on Monk and Coltrane harmonies – a big challenge and one we have all found fascinating to explore in our weekly rehearsals.
Choir successfully got their teeth around the challenging text of The Pelican by Edward Leer, producing some high quality purposeful chromatic harmonies led by Miss Holmes.
Chamber Choir took on the mammoth task of learning 12 minutes of a four-part harmony ‘Wicked’ medley, featuring five pieces from the musical. It definitely was wicked!
