Participation in sport and exercise during sixth form study is essential for a multitude of reasons, particularly as students navigate a pivotal phase of their education.  Engaging in physical activity not only fosters health benefits but also contributes positively to academic performance and examination readiness.

Regular exercise is crucial for maintaining physical health, as it aids in the prevention of various conditions such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health issues. This is especially pertinent during the sixth form years when students often experience heightened stress levels due to impending examinations.  Exercise is known to release endorphins, which can alleviate anxiety and improve mood, consequently enhancing a student's ability to focus and retain information.

Moreover, the discipline and commitment required to participate in sports can translate into improved study habits.  Students who engage in sports often develop time management skills, as they learn to balance their academic responsibilities with practice and competition schedules. This discipline is invaluable, particularly when preparing for A level examinations.

 

Wednesday Afternoons

On Wednesday afternoons there are no A level subject lessons and students in the Sixth Form combine with Year 11 students for Senior Games.

Students can follow two pathways: Performance or Participation.

Performance students will take part in one of the School’s representative senior sporting teams, whilst participation students will benefit from the social aspects of Wednesday Games and maintaining their fitness.

Sports Day

Fiercely contested, students represent one of the three senior houses (Foley, Foster or Potter) for the coveted Foley Trophy as part of inter-house competitions.  This culminates in the annual Sports Day in Summer Term.
