46 pupils and six staff travelled to the Alp2500 resort of La Molina in February half term on our biennial ski trip.
They enjoyed wonderful snow conditions along with blue skies and sunshine. La Molina, the oldest ski resort in Spain, has 71 skiable kilometres spread over 68 slopes for all levels, snowparks and the largest super pipe in the Pyrenees. It also has a long history of international events, such as the Alpine Skiing World Cup (2008), the World Snowboarding World Championships (2011), the Alpine Skiing World Championships for the Disabled (2013), or the FIS Parasnowboard World Championships (2023).
Many of the students had never skied before but made excellent progress and by the end of the week could confidently ski red runs. There were many laughs including our last day fancy dress in which our Year 11 boys particularly excelled!
Year 11 skier, Alfie writes:
"The trip started with the early wake up on the Saturday morning, none of us really having much of an idea what to expect (all wearing our baby pink hoodies). We set off on the coach with most of us heavily prepared with snacks, blankets etc. The journey there was long, but definitely worthwhile. We arrived at our hotel, still none of us really knowing what to expect.
For me, the best parts of the week were not just in the skiing but the evenings as well. The Wednesday evening talent show was definitely one of the more memorable parts of the week, with the sound of Ollie, Milo and Jude performance of ‘Don't Stop Believing’ by Journey will be ringing in my head for quite a long time. Not only this but it gave me and my roommates, Will and Sean a chance to perform ourselves, with me playing the slightly intimidating role of Mr. Coalter, Will playing the "happy chappy” Mr Rudge and Sean playing Sean.
The skiing, of course was the main part of the week, when it was great to see myself improve over the week from falling over about eight times on day one to doing blacks and reds with my instructor, Carla in our array of designated costumes from blow-up Santa (Ed) to a Heinz Beans tin (Charlie) and even the Pope (Harry), with myself being a cowgirl. Overall, it was an unforgettable week with memories made I'll never forget."
