Course Overview

An artist designed your clothes.  An artist designed your shoes.  An artist designed the computer games you play and websites you use.  An artist can think outside the box.  James Dyson, Alexander McQueen, Norman Foster, Christian Audigier – OBEY clothing were founded on the art, design and ideals of Shepard Fairey.

Art and Design stimulates independent thought, creativity and analytical skills, a unique way of understanding and responding to the world.  The course is personalised to accommodate individual student learning.

On the course students learn to make informed value judgements and aesthetic and practical decisions, enabling them to become more actively involved in shaping their work.

The range of opportunities at OSH is extensive.  Gallery visits are organised to support and develop students’ critical, constructive and contextual skills.  Art and Design is a very successful department at OSH.  Adobe Photoshop CS is used and digital video editing facilities are available, such as Final Cut Pro.  We have an etching press and printmaking facilities; a dark room for photography; a pottery and glass room for glass, mosaic work and ceramics.

Every year we host an art exhibition which is attended by parents and families, as well as students and staff.  Examination artwork has also been exhibited locally and nationally.

We have feedback annually from universities during interview, commenting on the standard and wide range of work individual students have produced on this course.
