Independent study: analysing and producing texts
The English Department prides itself on being able to offer courses which develop students’ analytical and critical skills that are invaluable for those who go on to study at university. We aim to encourage independence, develop inquisitive minds and foster a life-long love of Literature. Students have the opportunities to see dramatic productions at local theatres, attend lectures related to texts and modules in order to develop their own interest in the subject.
The A level success rate of the English Department and its students is excellent in both subjects and many of our students go on to specialise in English at under-graduate level.
Future Opportunities
Virtually all English students go on to take university courses in a wide range of different disciplines, from Law to Medicine and Business Management to Classical Studies. Success in the subject is seen to be an indicator of good critical and analytical skills.
